What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a partnership between farmers and local consumers to help maintain fresh produce that is grown locally. Members of a CSA pay a fee to a local farmer at the beginning of the season for a "share" of the produce which is often delivered to a pick up location or picked up at the farm. A share can consist of fresh veggies, fruits, flowers, eggs, poultry and much more. To learn more about the history of CSA, benefits of and more visit the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition website: http://www.macsac.org/aboutcsa.html.

If you do not see your health insurance company on the site listed below, ask your health care provider if they offer similar rebates or special offers for CSA memberships. For more information on CSA rebates visit http://www.macsac.org/rebates.html.

How much does a share feed?

This is difficult to estimate do to the variety of eating habits, vegetarians and adult/child families, so we do the best we can at estimating. A typical box feeds two adults that eat a moderate amount of vegetables a week. At this time, Sprouting Acres does not provide half shares. If you feel a whole share is too much, we suggest purchasing a share with someone else or sharing extra vegetables with friends, family, or co-workers.

How do I become a member?

Each year we expand our membership slightly. This year we are taking no more than 75 members. Membership is on a first come, first deposit basis. Please email us at andy@macwatson.net for availability and membership application.

Can I become a working member?

Yes, we welcome work shares! Simply contact us by email or phone. Our work shares spend approximately 3 hours per visit on the farm weeding, planting, harvesting, and much more. At each visit, work shares receive produce that is available, typically the amount of one weekly box.
